Sony launches developers program

Sony has launched a program to assist developers of interactive TV software. The company's new program will provide Web developers, content providers, and network and cable operators with tools and services. Sony is hoping the program will promote the development of personalized news, games, ads and commerce for interactive television. The company has a Web site for developers as part of the program. Sony signed an agreement with Cablevision Systems in 1999 to sell interactive set-top boxes to the cable operator, but a series of delays have held the boxes back. The set-top boxes are now expected by the end of the year.
