During Marvel and Netflix's "Iron Fist" panel at New York Comic Con on Saturday, award-winning actress Sigourney Weaver was announced as the new villain for the upcoming superhero smackdown series, "The Defenders."
Weaver is best known by sci-fi fans for her roles as Ripley in the "Alien" movie saga, Dana Barrett in "Ghostbusters," and Dr. Grace Augustine in "Avatar."
Weaver, joined the rest of the cast of "The Defenders" -- Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) and Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Finn Jones (Danny Rand from "Iron Fist") on stage for the first time.
While many fans are speculating that Weaver could be playing the villain in "The Defenders" executive producer Jeph Loeb only announced that Weaver was playing a significant but unspecified role in the upcoming Netflix series.
"Marvel is honored to have an actress of her caliber and status join what is already our biggest show ever! She is by definition a class act," Loeb said in a Marvel press release.
Marvel's "The Defenders" arrives on Netflix in 2017.
