SBC Communications made an offer to acquire outstanding Comcast Cellular Communications senior notes, effectively assuming more than $1 billion in debt as part of its previously announced purchase of the mobile phone unit, according to Securities and Exchange Commission documents. The 9.5 percent senior notes offered by Comcast are due May 1, 2007. The deal is expected to be "consummated shortly," according to the filing.
