Short Take: Red Hat releases new Linux for Compaq's Alpha chips

Red Hat has released the latest version of its Linux for computers running Compaq's Alpha chip. Version 6.1 for Alpha, which incorporates a graphical installation and several other improvements, follows by four months the release of 6.1 for Intel chips. Red Hat also sells 6.1 for computers with Sun's UltraSparc chip, which like the Alpha can accommodate large amounts of memory. Compaq hopes that adoption of Linux will spur sales of its Alpha chip.
