Short Take: OS/2 gets Java update

IBM will by month's end ship an update to its OS/2 operating system that adds support for Java version 1.02, company officials said today. The company will post to its Web site files for updating the Java support in the OS/2 Warp 3 and OS/2 Warp Connect client packages, and for adding Java support for the first time to OS/2 Warp Server and OS/2 Warp Server SMP operating systems. The update should increase Java application performance in the client package by 60 percent, said Tim Thatcher, Java program manager at IBM.
