NorthPoint Communications, a digital subscriber line (DSL) wholesaler, posted a third-quarter net loss of $46.5 million, or 37 cents a share, wider when compared with a net loss of $7.8 million, or 32 cents a share, for the same period last year. Wall Street expected a loss of 39 cents a share. Quarterly revenue increased to $5.7 million from $237,000 a year ago. NorthPoint launched DSL service in eight new markets during the quarter and had installed 11,800 lines at the end of September. The company also announced plans to expand service to 32 new markets next year.
