Short Take: NorthPoint finishes first phase of G.lite trial

NorthPoint Communications, a wholesale digital subscriber line (DSL) service provider, successfully completed the first phase of its trials of the recently approved G.lite standard in Santa Clara, California. The company believes it is the first competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) to complete G.lite trials of voice and data over one phone line. Intel Architecture Labs assisted with the trials; Intel is an investor in NorthPoint. Separately, Intel's senior DSL technologist, Mark Peden, who was instrumental in the development of the G.lite standard, will soon join NorthPoint as director of technology.
