Short Take: Motorola, GM form wireless alliance

Motorola struck an alliance today with General Motors unit OnStar and Saturn Electronics and Engineering to develop and manufacture wireless devices for GM vehicles. The automaker plans to offer wireless options in every new GM vehicle that rolls out in 2001. The value of the deal was estimated at $1 billion dollars over the span of the contract. The deal calls for the development of Motorola's Telematics technology that will use global positioning system satellite technology for navigation and wireless communication to offer voice and data services.
