An estimated 39.7 percent of American colleges enable prospective students to apply directly through the school's Web site, according to a study of college marketing practices just published by Primary Research Group. The study, which took a random sample of 68 colleges, also found that, of the 60.3 percent of the colleges that do not currently enable applicants to apply through their sites, 51.4 percent plan to do so within the next year.
