Short Take: Microsoft, Novell win ruling

Microsoft and Novell said they have won a ruling against an Arizona bulletin board operator accused of distributing pirated software. The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Arizona ruled that the Final Frontier Bulletin Board System was distributing pirated copies of software from both companies. The court awarded $73,000 to Microsoft and Novell, and said the ruling was "an economic death sentence" to the BBS, which would have been liable for a larger sum had it been in better financial condition.
