Start-up Kestrel Solutions announced more than $100 million in financing for its fourth round. Kestrel makes optical-based networking equipment for metropolitan areas--a hot market as incumbent communications carriers look to update their layouts. The company claims to have a new optical-based technique for transmitting traffic at high speeds, called Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM). The financing was led by Credit Suisse First Boston, with investors including the Photonics Fund.
