Short Take: Intel, Microsoft, Toshiba release specification

Intel, Microsoft, and Toshiba America announced the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) version 1.0, an open specification to bring easy, flexible power management to servers, business systems, computer desktops, and laptops. It will enable PCs to come on instantly when accessed by a user and to perform automated tasks after they are turned off. PCs, products, and operating systems that incorporate ACPI are expected in late 1997.
