Short Take: DVD piracy hearing postponed

A hearing to determine whether to prevent individuals and Web sites from disseminating software capable of breaking new DVD encryption has been postponed. Originally scheduled for today, the hearing in Santa Clara County is now to be held Tuesday. The DVD Copy Control Association, a trade group representing the movie industry and other firms, is seeking a temporary restraining order against 72 named and anonymous individuals accused of trade secrets violations for helping distribute a program called DeCSS. The judge rejected an initial request for a restraining order last month.
