Short Take: Companies plan Net search, management protocols

Microsoft and Network Solutions are teaming up to advance two emerging Internet protocols that promise to improve network management and searching on the Internet. The companies will speed up development of Referral Whois (RWhois), a protocol that allows Internet service providers and other organizations to easily manage large numbers of Internet Protocol addresses. They will also focus on the Common Indexing Protocol (CIP), which will allow users to quickly search for information across multiple Internet servers, including those supporting LDAP, Whois++, and RWhois protocols.
