Short Take: Clinton approves Next Generation Internet funding

President Clinton has signed a bill authorizing the spending of $1.5 billion over the next two years to continue developing the Next Generation Internet--a government network that will be up to 1,000 times faster than today's public Net and will connect to more than 100 universities. An advisory committee also will be set up to monitor the program and to report to Congress on NGI's progress.
