Seiko Instruments said Monday that it is bringing its SmartPad to handhelds that run Microsoft's Pocket PC operating system. The SmartPad, which has been available for some time for handhelds running the Palm OS, consists of special legal-size notepad and a "beaming" device. It allows people to write in normal ink onto a legal pad and have those notes also show up on a handheld. The handheld must be placed on the SmartPad so that it can receive the notes via its infrared port.
Seiko said the SmartPad for Pocket PC will be available later this month for $169 and works with Hewlett-Packard's Jornada and Compaq's iPaq handhelds.
