Scour.net--which last week got a boost with an investment from Hollywood power broker Michael Ovitz and Yucaipa Companies partner Richard Wolpert said its new search service was brought about through partnerships with MP3.com, Launch Media, Emusic.com, and AMP3.
The Los Angeles-based company also said today that it inked deals with multimedia player maker Sonique and jukebox software maker MusicMatch. Through those deals, users will be able to search for legal music files on the Web through either of the partners' players, according to Scour.net.
The idea behind the deals is to "aggregate all music download information in one place," Dan Rodrigues, president of Scour.net, told CNET News.com.
Creating a resource for finding downloadable music online is part of Scour.net's strategy to further appeal to 18- to 24-year-olds, who so far make up the site's main demographic, Rodrigues said. He said the goal is to make Scour.net "the MTV of search engines."
"It's about finding content, not just Web sites, and creating a hip and cool experience around that," he added.
