SanDisk, Fuji in photo card deal

SanDisk announced a collaboration deal with Fuji Photo Film on Thursday to manufacture and distribute Fujifilm-branded xD Picture Cards, which are removable flash memory cards. SanDisk said it will manufacture the cards and supply them to Fujifilm as well as sell them through its own retail distribution channels. The company said it will begin shipments this quarter.

The format was developed by Fujifilm, Olympus and Toshiba and was meant specifically for use with digital cameras. The format can support up to a maximum of 8GB of storage. SanDisk sells cards with capacities ranging from 64MB to 512MB. The company said it will charge $270 for a 512MB xD Picture Card.
