Sagem's new gear: The my700X, SH1 and car kit

Sagem has launched a slim phone with changeable covers, a bargain stereo Bluetooth headset and a hands-free car kit

It's a little known fact that tech manufacturer Sagem used to make military equipment. That division has now been spun off into a separate company, so the only harm posed by a Sagem phone nowadays is if you use it to call your ex after a night out on the tiles -- hardly a nuclear threat.

Recently Sagem revamped its range of mobile phone devices with a slim, funky look. A few months ago we had a look at the my401X, but it didn't thrill us. Some of Sagem's new products are definitely worth having a gander at though...

The Sagem my700X is a thin candybar phone with a 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth connectivity, a miniSD slot, MP3 player and interchangeable covers. It's not the most exciting phone we've seen, but it's definitely a step in the right direction.

What has us really excited though, are some of Sagem's new accessories. The SH1 Bluetooth stereo headset is light, compact and lets you listen to music and answer calls wirelessly. If you receive a call, you only need to press one button to cut out the music and let you talk. This isn't a new concept, but we are also fans of the SH1's design and easy-to-use button layout. The SH1 is easy to put on and isn't ridiculously expensive like some other headsets.

Another interesting addition to Sagem's mobile devices range is a Bluetooth hands-free kit that is well-designed and simple to use. Admittedly, it feels like a child's toy, but we like the fact that it doesn't have complex symbols or hard to press buttons. The hands-free kit will last for around 25 days on standby and for 10 hours of talk time.

The my700X is currently not available and there are no details on pricing, however Sagem says it will hopefully be available later this year. Fortunately, the Bluetooth headset is available and selling for £52, and the car kit is going for £64. Expect a full review of the my700X soon. -AL
