Obviously the poll only counts people using Yahoo!'s search engine, not Bing or Google. But nevertheless, it's an interesting insight into what was on our lips -- or fingertips rather, as we typed -- over the last 12 months.
The most searched-for term was "Royal baby" while "iPhone" came in second. Apple's blower wasn't the only gadget featured though. "" came in fourth place, ahead of " " in ninth, which I find quite surprising. I would think the iPad is the much better-known device among the general public -- I've heard people refer to tablets in general as iPads. But maybe Amazon's device is gaining traction, as marketing people like to say.
I'm also surprised that theand weren't included in the most searched-for terms.
One of the most-asked questions of the year was "How to close apps on iOS7?" [sic], though that came in behind "How to make money?" and "How old is Cher?" All fair questions.
Candy Crush Saga was one of the "new obsessions that gripped us" this year, while more serious titles dominated the best games of the year list. Battlefield 4 was just behind Call of Duty: Ghosts, while FIFA 14, The Last of Us, and Bioshock Infinite also charted. Predictably, GTA V came top.
It wasn't all serious on the games front though. The list also includes Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Luigi's Mansion 2. (What? No Super Mario 3D World?)
What do you think of the list? And what will you be searching for in 2014? Let me know in the comments, or on our Facebook page.
