Rainbow Six Siege update adds high-resolution textures on PC

New visual options are best enjoyed in 4K; patch also fixes issues raised by community.

Gaming

Ubisoft has detailed the next patch for Rainbow Six Siege, which is set to address a number of complains levelled by the community, and also provide a high-resolution texture pack for those on PC.

The changes, according to the publisher, will be introduced on December 16 across all platforms. PC players will see the message "[3-0x80030081] IncompatibleCustomClientVersion" while the patch is being deployed, Ubisoft has said this is normal.

The Utra-HD texture pack is described as "best appreciated while playing the game in 4K resolution." It upgrades "some of the most common textures in the game, such as characters and weapons, to a new level of fidelity."

Siege launched on December 1 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. In GameSpot's Siege review Scott Butterworth awarded the game an 8/10, saying his "experiences weren't always perfect, but when Siege works, there's nothing else like it."

He continued: "It's not designed to appeal to all players, and that's exactly what allows it to be something special. With so much strategic depth, those periods between firefights actually become some of the most rewarding, while firefights themselves are made all the more intense by the knowledge that you're fighting for your life, not just your kill/death ratio."
