Gaze, weary traveller, upon the first episode of Adventures in Tech, a brand new show from your pals at CNET that takes you on a visual safari, deep into the untamed jungles of all your favourite technology.
Our debut episode shines a dazzling spotlight on Nintendo's late-eighties hero, the much-beloved Game Boy. Click play on the video below to learn how this killer handheld trounced its rivals, despite being significantly less powerful than competing consoles.
Nostalgia, knowledge and a healthy dollop of shameful nineties adverts -- it's all a single click away. So stop reading and start clicking!
Lessons for Xbox One and PS4
Two new consoles are almost upon us. Theand pack every feature imaginable, but in these polygon-crunching times, are we missing the elegance of truly simple gadgets?
The Game Boy was uncomplicated, packing just the right hardware to deliver long-lasting gaming thrills, and nothing more. With an 8-core processor and a frame chunky enough to crush a duck (or even a decent-sized goose), the Xbox One is wildly powerful (and pricey), but would you call it elegant? I'm not so sure.
What's your strongest Game Boy memory? Do you miss Nintendo's classic console, or did you always prefer Sega's Game Gear? Let me know in the comments, or over on our Facebook wall.
Tune in for more Adventures in Tech!
Adventures in Tech will be bringing you more incredible tech features every two weeks, with topics ranging from ancient, beloved devices to modern marvels from Samsung, or asking piercing questions about the likes of Apple, and more.
Basically, it's whatever we feel like making, and what we think you'll enjoy watching. Have fun with our premier episode, and stick any feedback in the comments -- as long as it's friendly because it has been a long few weeks and we're kind of on the edge.
P.S: Our producer cut it out of the final edit, but here's some close-up detail of the 'Four Shades of Grey' novel that's featured in this episode. You may need to grab a cold shower.
