A fan-made remake of Pokémon Gold and Silver puts you in the (first-person) driver's seat.

We're of two minds about this. On the one hand, it's Pokémon Gold/Silver in first-person 3D, so you can enter the buildings and battle other trainers and grow Pokéberries and collect Pokémon and have random encounters in dark caves as though you're actually there ... but on the other hand, it looks really easy to get lost among the bushes.

Pokémon 3D is the work of Nils Drescher, aka, Nilllzz, who has painstakingly recreated the entire game in 3D, sticking as close to the original graphics as reasonably possible.

The result is massively authentic and impressive — and, judging by the reception, something that fans feel is overdue. Much like the PokéMMO, now that we think of it.

The game is free to download via IndieDB, where it is also up for the site's Indy of the Year Award. Do make sure you try to follow the download instructions; poor Nilllzz has been having a bandwidth issue or two.
