PeopleSoft enhances accounting apps

PeopleSoft released a new version of its accounting application for businesses and the public sector on Friday. The new version, called PeopleSoft Financials 8.4, stores financial data on a single database, allowing companies to close their books quickly and get up-to-the-minute financial information. The release includes new applications that send alerts to management when a group or business division exceeds its budget. The product also facilitates the reporting of off balance-sheet investments, made controversial by the demise of Enron. PeopleSoft has been caught up in its own accounting imbroglio for its investments in research-and-development spinoff Momentum Business Applications.
