Oracle promotes execs to senior VP

Database software giant Oracle promotes Allen Snyder and John Purvis to senior vice president posts in the company's customer support services unit.

Database software giant Oracle today said it has promoted Allen Snyder and John Purvis to senior vice president posts in the company's customer support services unit.

With the promotions, Snyder, formerly vice president, is now senior vice president of the Americas division for Oracle Support Services (OSS) and Purvis, also formerly vice president, is now senior vice president of global support sales and marketing for OSS, the company said.

As senior vice presidents, Oracle said both Snyder and Purvis will be expanding their existing duties for each division they already support. Oracle said Snyder will continue to work on customer support and operations while Purvis continues to help expand worldwide commercial operations as well as sales and marketing within OSS.

Prior to joining Oracle, Snyder spent more than 20 years with Digital Equipment Corporation where he held various technical, engineering, and management positions. Before Oracle, Purvis managed research and development programs for NCR, and founded Acknowledge Systems, a computer-based training technology company, which has been acquired by Convergent Technologies.

In recent weeks, Oracle has seen a number of its senior level executives leave for Internet start-ups or competitors. Earlier this week, application service provider (ASP) Corio named two former Oracle executives, Sal Jamil and Laurent Pacalin, as vice president of the company's professional services unit and vice president of business development and alliances, respectively. Corio, which competes against Oracle in the emerging ASP market, also snagged former Oracle executive George Kadifa in late August to serve as its chief executive officer.
