Optus has announced it's dipping its feet into thewaters by launching FetchTV to its customers in the second half of 2011 across both TV and mobile devices.
The companies are yet to announce details, but the relationship won't extend to content sharing initially and will incorporate the existing channel line-up offered by.
However, one industry insider said "the Optus deal gives Fetch even more clout when it goes to negotiate content deals with the content providers".
Austin R. Bryan, director of Optus Digital Media, said "The way people view and engage with video content is changing rapidly. Optus wants to be at the forefront of this change, which is why we're partnering with FetchTV to develop a unique TV offering across multiple devices."
Scott Lorson, CEO of FetchTV, said this was a "significant milestone for FetchTV and we look forward to working with Optus to launch a unique and compelling entertainment service".
Optus currently resells the Foxtel iQ HD service after signing a series of content-sharing deals beginning in 2002, but it doesn't have an IPTV offering.
