Nvidia on Tuesday formally announced the PC version of its next-generation GeForce3 graphics chip. The move, which had been expected, follows the announcement of the Mac version of the chip last week by Apple CEO Steve Jobs.
PCs with the new chip will start appearing next month, according to Nvidia. Apple has said the GeForce3 will be an option on built-to-order Power Macs starting next month as well. The GeForce3, which allows for more realistic shading and customized special effects, has the same core as Nvidia's graphics chip for the Xbox game console from Microsoft.
