Nortel nabs Cisco exec for CTO spot

Nortel has hired another former Cisco executive to be its chief technology officer.

Another former Cisco Systems' executive has joined the ranks at Nortel Networks. Nortel announced on Thursday that Gary Kunis, who was Cisco's chief science officer until 2002, will be the new chief technology officer. Earlier this month, Nortel announced that another former Cisco executive, Gary Daichendt, joined the company as its new president and chief operating officer.

This is the second CTO change for Nortel in the past six months. Brian McFadden, formerly president of Nortel's optical networking division, took over as CTO in October for Greg Mumford. McFadden will continue to work for Nortel in a new position called chief research officer.
