The Nokia N900 is a mobile computing powerhouse, with a slide-out Qwerty keyboard and an 89mm (3.5-inch) touchscreen. Although the touchscreen is the resistive type, so it takes some pressure from a fingernail to work, we found it responsive and fun to use.

Vodafone is keeping schtum about the tariffs for the N900, but Carphone Warehouse is showing the N900 available for pre-order on a £35-per-month contract that includes 900 cross-network minutes, unlimited calls to landlines and unlimited texts. No news on the data bundle, but the N900 leans closer to being a Web tablet than a phone, so we expect it to be unlimited.
Expect the N900 to land on Vodafone's shelves in January. In the meantime, you can sign up for news of the phone on the Vodafone Web site.
Update: Carphone Warehouse tells us the N900 will be available from its Web site from 26 December and in its stores from 14 January.
