New iPod software adds volume limiter

New iPod software adds volume limiter

Apple has released a firmware update for the current iPods (versions 1.1.1 for iPod and iPod Nano; no update for Shuffle) that includes a new option for limiting the volume output level. Similar to Sony's use of its AVLS volume limiter, the new feature is presumably in response to a U.S.-based lawsuit. Back in 2002, Apple pulled iPods from shelves in France in order to comply with a French law limiting output levels for portable devices to 100dB.
