The eclipse is on the horizon, which can only mean one thing -- the 13-episode "Heroes Reborn" NBC miniseries is drawing nearer. A full-length trailer for the upcoming series was released at Comic-Con over the weekend, and it actually looks like the new show might be pretty decent.
While this follow-up to the popular "Heroes" is definitely getting a lot of fresh new blood, several characters from the original series are back for "Reborn." That includes Noah Bennet (Jack Coleman), Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka), The Haitian (Jimmy Jean-Louis), Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy), Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg), Angela Petrelli (Cristine Rose) and Micah Sanders (Noah Gray-Cabey), who join the newcomers as they embark on amazing adventures to discover and hone their abilities.
Several of the overarching themes from the original series are back as well. The Company returns -- at least in some fashion -- hunting down those with special abilities to either wipe them off the face of the planet or, perhaps, to harness their abilities for themselves. In the trailer, we get our first look at some of these hunters, who come in to what looks like a support group for the superpowered with guns blazing.
Overall, the trailer points to a grim, bloody adventure that could be as good as the incredible first few seasons of the original "Heroes" series. Of course, it could end up wallowing in mediocrity like the final two -- only time will tell which way this one will go. As a "Heroes" fan, I'm hoping for the former -- that the show can ride the Hiro Nakamura wave back to greatness and not get lost in something like the Maya-and-Alejandro or the Evil Carnival story lines that ultimately led to the show's cancellation in 2010.
We won't know whether "Heroes Reborn" will rise or flop until September, when the first episode of 13-episode miniseries lands on NBC. The series will air Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET and PT beginning September 24.
