Where desktop CRT (cathode ray tube) monitors are bulky, panel displays weigh less and are significantly thinner. But flat panel products, based on liquid crystal display (LCD) technology, have traditionally been expensive to manufacture and too expensive for consumers.
Recent production advances have lowered costs, however, raising new hope that seems to be confirmed by the presence of flat panel products all over the Comdex floor. Flat panel products will arrive in notebooks later, but there have been improvements in this segment too.
