Netflix wants Frank Underwood to be Australia's next PM

We need real leadership, Netflix reckons as it promotes the fifth season of "House of Cards".

Netflix wants Australia to have real, border-enforcing leadership, "like they do in the US." But not Donald Trump -- more like Frank Underwood.

In a faux political broadcast that aired on Australian TV on Tuesday night, Netflix unveiled the #AustraliansForUnderwood campaign, its latest ad for the fifth season of " House of Cards."

Launching an hour before Australia's federal budget proceedings began, the ad addresses the country's hot-button issues and safely assumes outrage is about to ensue.

"The flamin' treasurer's at it again," says a true-blue Aussie farmer. "Cost of living. House prices. Whatever happened to a fair go?" The answer to these issues, of course, is "House of Cards" protagonist Frank Underwood.

Nice to see that US perceptions of Australia haven't changed since Bart cost Homer 900 dollarydoos in 1994.

"House of Cards" season five will launch globally on Netflix on 30 May.
