No tape delay for Monday's top tech headlines:
This year's NBC broadcast of the Olympics may offer the best streaming technology yet for watching the games online, but NBC has comefor not being good enough in today's instant-news world.
For for the first time, every event is streamed live online (but without full commentary). You'll need to prove you pay for a cable television package to watch the games as they happen, and some have said loading the streams on mobile devices can be problematic at times.
The gold for networks is sponsorship during primetime, and that's why NBC is tape delaying some of the hottest matches with full commentary and analysis. But in a social media world where news arrives instantly, critics have voiced their upset about the wait on Twitter using hashtag #NBCfail and the mock account @NBCDelayed. Some have promoted ways to get a pirated feed of the BBC. One outspoken Monday afternoon after encouraging followers to write emails to an NBC executive. Regardless of the complaints to see it live on television, more people are tuning into NBC primetime than the last summer games in Beijing, according to Nielsen.
And in other Olympics Twitter trouble, the International Olympic Committee is asking attendees to, or else TV coverage will be impaired. With so many in attendance using phones, the infrastructure in London cannot handle the volume. And with data transmission interruptions, television commentators cannot get information to broadcast live.
Apple's making a bit of news today. It's latest operating system, OS X Mountain Lion, has. It's been downloaded over 3 million times in its first four days of availability.
September may be a busy month for Apple. The blogthat Apple will announce the iPhone 5 and the new iPad Mini on Sept. 12, and it'll go on sale nine days later on Sept. 21.
