Walked into the local TullyÂ’s for a caffeine fill-up this morning when I noticed a store sign promoting free Wi-Fi access. I grabbed my tall latte, shrugged, and headed back to the office. Nothing out of the normal, I told myself.
But I missed the point. The fact that itÂ’s not a big deal anymore is a very big deal indeed.
Time was when this sort of event would have been greeted with banner headlines. No longer. Coffee retailers, fast-food providers and municipalities are all getting into the act and we treat the news with a collective yawn.
Then again, putting up a corporate Web site was once treated as a gala event Â– if you can believe that from the vantage point of 2005.
