NBN, the body responsible for the deployment of the National Broadband Network around Australia, has announced changes to its board of directors.

Michael Malone will assume an non-executive board position being left vacant by Simon Hackett. Malone founded the service provider iiNet in 1993 and served as its chief executive officer for twenty years.

Hackett is resigning from his board position after just 18 months, citing a decision to focus on his role as executive chairman of the ASX listed company Redflow Ltd. Hackett is the co-founder of ISP Internode.

NBN chairman Dr Ziggy Switkowski welcomed Malone in a media statement, saying he looked forward to Malone "bringing new perspectives to the board table, keeping nbn focused upon our customers, valuing innovation, and successfully completing the network build."
