Medion Akoya 8610: Blu-ray laptop cheapness

We've just got wind of a new Medion laptop, which packs all manner of juicy multimedia-oriented goodies and stonking great 18.6-inch screen

We've just got wind of a new Medion laptop, which packs all manner of juicy multimedia-oriented goodies, for next to nothing. The first thing we noticed about the Akoya P8610 was its size -- it packs an almighty 18.4-inch screen with a native resolution of 1,680x945 pixels and a true 16:9 aspect ratio.

Next highest on the whoa-o-meter was the Blu-ray disc reader. True, you can't enjoy movies at the highest resolution, but you can pipe them to your big telly via the HDMI socket -- think of it as a giant Blu-ray player with a built-in screen. Juddery playback shouldn't be an issue thanks to the Nvidia GeForce 9600M GS graphics, 2GHz Core 2 Duo T5800 CPU and 4GB of RAM, and it won't shy away from the odd game, either.

The Akoya 8610 also includes dual digital TV tuners so you can watch one Freeview channel while recording another, a 320GB hard drive, 802.11n Wi-Fi, three USB ports, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, plus the option of either 32-bit or 64-bit versions of Windows Vista.

It'll be available from your local Tesco or direct from Medion from next week for a paltry £800. Get involved.
