Can Matt Damon survive being stranded on the Red Planet? That's the question hovering over "The Martian," an upcoming sci-fi flick directed by Ridley Scott based on the Andy Weir novel of the same name.
20th Century Fox released Wednesday a new trailer for the movie, which stars Damon as astronaut Mark Watney. While much of the footage was already out -- we saw most of it in thein June -- there are some scenes that reveal the movie's funny side.
In one scene, for example, Damon boasts he is "the greatest botanist on this planet." He's the only botanist on the planet, of course. In another, he declares he is going to have to "science the shit out of this" when he realizes he must await rescue for four years in a habitat designed to keep him alive for a month.
The movie will, of course, have its share of somber moments, like a tearful Damon saying goodbye to his family when he loses hope that he'll return home safely, or when his crewmates decide to mount a daring rescue even though it might lead to their deaths.
You can watch the action-packed trailer below. "The Martian" premieres in theaters in the UK and Australia on September 30, followed by the US on October 2. If the movie ends up being anything like the trailers, it's going to be a fun, emotional ride.
