We've all had those moments of wishing we could join up with our favorite superhero team, and recently, Marvel and Hero Ventures have teamed up to offer that chance to people all around the United States. The Marvel Experience is a traveling installation designed to make every visitor feel as if they've been recruited into the world of S.H.I.E.L.D. by none other than Nick Fury himself. Tomorrow Daily hosts Ashley Esqueda and Khail Anonymous took a trek to Del Mar, Calif., and had a look at what The Marvel Experience offers to fans.
Unfortunately, you won't be rubbing elbows with Samuel L. Jackson himself, but you will be experiencing what Hero Ventures calls "hyper-reality" as you walk through seven large domes, each unfolding a new part of the show's storyline. During the experience, you'll see Marvel favorites like Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor, Nick Fury...and even a few heroes we haven't yet seen team up with The Avengers in Marvel's Cinematic Universe, like Spider-Man and Wolverine.
The domes themselves cover about 80,000 square feet and are populated with different kinds of high-tech entertainment: a 360-degree video dome projecting 3D, stereoscopic content as The Avengers take you on a mission; interactive stalls featuring Kinect, augmented reality and other fun tech; and for the final showdown between you and the Red Skull's Super-Adaptoid robot, a 4D motion ride.
The entire exhibit takes about 2 to 3 hours to complete, but as crowds get heavier, the wait times for a lot of the interactive booths will likely push your total time investment over that 3-hour mark, so plan accordingly. Tickets are sold with specific arrival times to help keep the lines down during peak hours, but when we went, the second dome was extremely popular with visitors, and the lines for each activity filled up fast.
The Marvel Experience is currently winding down its three-week stint in Del Mar, CA, gearing up for its next stop in Chicago, and plans on hitting over 14 US locations in 2015. If you don't see your city on the tour, fear not, because Hero Ventures CEO Rick Licht hopes to go to even more cities in 2016, and potentially expanding the show to an international affair, if the event is successful.
