Macromedia has combined its Authorware 6 tool for online educational applications with its Flash 5 animation software and Dreamweaver 4 Web authoring tool to create the eLearning Studio. The new product follows educational software standards set by the Advanced Distributed Learning Network, the Aviation Industry CBT (Computer-Based Training) Committee, Instructional Management Systems, and the World Wide Web Consortium. The newly upgraded Authorware 6 adds "one button" Web and CD-ROM publishing, drag-and-drop synchronization of various media types, and support for streaming MP3 audio.
The eLearning Studio costs $2,999 for new customers, $899 for those who already use Authorware 5.x, or $1,099 for those with Authorware 3.x and 4.x. The standalone Authorware 6 costs $2,699 for new customers, $499 for those with Authorware 5.x, or $699 for those with Authorware 3.x and 4.x. Both products are scheduled to ship next month.
