Sony is making an animated movie about emoji, and maybe that's not such a bad idea after all. For Wednesday night's episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Kimmel supposedly got his hands on the script for the upcoming movie, and enacted a scene from the film with his guest, actress Brie Larson of "21 Jump Street."
In the clip, Kimmel's and Larson's characters meet, fall in love, start a family and go through some of the same trials and tribulations many couples face, though they do it all while communicating entirely in the cutesy ideograms that have permeated mainstream culture in the last few years.
From their very first winky face to dates involving eggplant tacos and the couple's first bundle of baby emoji joy, you can watch the emoji couple's relationship play out from start to butcher-knife finish.
Sony Pictures Animation won a bidding war to make the emoji film. Eric Siegel and Anthony Leondis will write the script, with Leondis serving as director.
