JDS Uniphase saves on IT

JDS Uniphase is cutting its IT budget by nearly 60 percent using Oracle's e-business software suite, the companies said Tuesday. According to Oracle, JDS Uniphase restructured its IT operations using Oracle's outsourcing program and is expected to save $35 million annually, including the cost of the five-year agreement to outsource the management of its applications and database software to Oracle.

Oracle has been plugging its outsourcing program as a way to help companies cut their IT spending costs. Earlier this year, it announced a new program to help customers calculate the full cost of using Oracle Outsourcing to buy, set up and maintain its applications. JDS Uniphase had been an Oracle customer since 2000. Under the new deal, JDS Uniphase will consolidate on Oracle from several application support providers.
