Intel tweaks mobile Celeron pricing

Intel cut the prices on its mobile Celeron chips by up to 28 percent over the weekend following the release of new, cheaper Pentium 4 chips for notebooks. The 1.2GHz mobile Celeron dropped 21 percent, from $170 to $134, while the 1.13GHz dropped 28 percent, from $134 to $96. The 1.06GHz version went from $107 to $80, a 25 percent drop. More price cuts are on the way. A rash of new desktop Pentium 4s and complimentary chipsets from Intel will arrive May 6, according to sources. One of the new chipsets will come with a faster 533MHz bus for better overall performance. Intel is also expected to cut the price of the mobile Pentium 4 chips again in May.
