Intel ships sample InfiniBand chips

Intel has produced its first prototype InfiniBand chips and sent them to customers for testing, the company announced. InfiniBand is a technology developed by IBM, Intel, Hewlett-Packard, Compaq Computer and others to improve the connections between a server's CPUs and peripherals such as storage systems or network cards. Customers with prototype chips include Compaq, IBM, QLogic and Adaptec. Intel has invested in several InfiniBand companies.
