IBM buys DataMirror for data integration server

Software heavyweight fills in its information-on-demand strategy with real-time analysis tools.

IBM on Monday announced it intends to acquire DataMirror, a maker of real-time data integration software, for about $161 million in cash.

Markham, Ontario-based DataMirror's tools are designed to trigger actions from information stored in a data warehouse. For example, a retailer could automatically replenish inventory based on sales data stored in a data warehouse. IBM said that the software will be incorporated into its data integration server. It is the 21st acquisition in IBM's information-on-demand strategy of making corporate information more easily accessed and shared.
