IBM adds e-commerce, Web tools

Big Blue releases VisualAge e-business, a toolset for turning existing applications into e-commerce and Web-enabled systems.

IBM has released VisualAge e-business, a toolset for turning existing applications into e-commerce and Web-enabled systems, the company said.

The suite includes existing tools, such as IBM's VisualAge for Java, NetObjects Fusion, Lotus BeanMachine, Lotus Domino Go Webserver, and IBM's DB2 Universal Database Developer's Edition.

Also included are VisualAge WebRunner, a subscription service that provides reusable JavaBeans components and productivity tools, and the Netscape Communications Navigator Web browser.

IBM executives said the benefit of the toolset is that all components are integrated and ready to use for building Web applications. That allows companies to start developing applications immediately, instead of spending time and resources on finding tools that work together.

The toolset is priced at $2,499 and is available on Windows 95 and Windows NT.
