HP settles inkjet cartridge dispute

Hewlett-Packard said Thursday it has resolved a dispute with Gotan Hsu over packaging for thermal inkjet cartridges sold in Spain. According to HP, Gotan has agreed to stop using the disputed packaging. Palo Alto, Calif.-based HP sells its brand of thermal inkjet cartridges worldwide in boxes with beveled corners. Gotan was importing cartridges manufactured by Taiwanese company IUT into Spain, advertising them as intended replacements for the HP 51626A and HP 51629A cartridges. HP objected to sale of the products for several reasons, including its use of the trademarked shape of the packaging.
