Have yourself an ugly Christmas sweater, by renting one

Why spend full price on festive fashions if you can rent a wacky wardrobe to show off your love for reindeer, snowmen, wreaths, holly, Santa Claus, elves and candy canes?

You have an office party, family dinner or Christmas caroling engagement that calls for just the right ugly holiday sweater, but all you have in your closet are tasteful cardigans. Never fear, you can now rent the tacky variety of festive fuzzy attire from Rent The Runway, a site that refers to itself as the "Netflix for haute couture."

The site offers fancy party dresses and high-fashion accessories from famous designers such as Vera Wang, Roberto Cavalli, Helmut Lang, Vivienne Westwood, Versace, Preen, Anna Sui and many more. All fashions are available to rent, which makes sense if you'd rather temporarily possess a $565 Helmut Lang dress for $30.

Most of the site features the kind of fashion that would make anyone feel like a runway model. But the Ugly Holiday Sweaters section will make most fashionistas cringe.

For $15, you can rent ugly sweaters showing winter wonderland scenes of the North Pole, jolly Santas, candy canes, presents with bows, cats in scarves, teddy bears and more.

You choose the delivery and return date. Rentals usually last for four to eight days. Once you're done wearing the sweater, mail it back with a prepaid UPS envelope. The company handles the dry cleaning. A $5 insurance fee covers minor repairs.
