Handheld maker Handspring on Tuesday released a software upgrade that will allow Treo 90 owners to add plug-in attachments using the organizer's Secure Digital expansion slot. The move could eventually allow Treo 90 owners to plug in things like digital cameras or Global Positioning System locators, although such products are just coming to the market.
The expansion slot on the Treo 90 initially supported postage stamp-size memory cards, but not attachable peripherals. The only two such add-ons today are Palm's Bluetooth card, which connects the device wirelessly to a cell phone, and Margi's Presenter-to-Go, which allows the Treo to connect to a projector to play PowerPoint slides. The upgrade is available from Handspring's Web site.
