Gracenote, Pioneer sing tunes in cars

Online music service Gracenote has teamed with Pioneer to provide a music recognition service for automobiles. Under the deal, Pioneer's car electronics products will let people use Gracenote's global music database and recognition services. Berkeley, Calif.-based Gracenote said it will embed a version of its database within Pioneer's car navigation system. Gracenote's service is composed of a database of song names and CD titles. Its software recognizes songs on CDs and then tells applications such as AOL Time Warner's Winamp the names of songs and albums. Gracenote has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against CD-burning company Roxio, alleging that Roxio illegally distributed its software and infringed on Gracenote's patents.
